William 'Billy' Bannister was a Burnley born and raised football player who turned out for Burnley F.C. and England. He made his debut on 18th March 1901 as England defeated Wales 6-0 at St. James' Park, Newcastle. In November 1901 Bannister was sold to Lancashire rivals Bolton Wanderers for a fee of £300. Bannister went on to play for Woolwich Arsenal, Leicester Fosse and eventually returned to Turf Moor.
