Nelson's was a cotton, rayon manufacturer as well as doublers and creelers.
They also operated from Clover Mill.
A type of quality control, any person who got to
be any kind of overlooker enjoyed high status amongst his or her peers. In a class-ridden society a working class
person who got to be an overlooker was at the top of the bottom heap. It was seen in the family as a "good job", and women would brag to
their friends if one of their children or their husband became an
overlooker.
