General notes
In 1912 Leyland Motors entered their 3 ton wagon into the War Office vehicle trials along with a smaller 1.5 ton vehicle. Both vehicles were selected for the subsidy scheme, buyers would receive a payment each year on the proviso that the vehicle was kept in good condition and would be available for the War Office to purchase at a premium within 72 hours of the outbreak of war. The 3 ton wagon became the main subsidy vehicle and due to the numbers supplied to the Royal Flying Corp became known as the RAF type. 5932 were produced over the period of the war.
