Packhorse Bridge, Higherford
Higherford
Known locally as the 'Roman Bridge' or 'Th'owd Brig', the bridge actually dates from the early 17th century. The span of 36 feet crosses Pendle Water and was an important link in the packhorse trackways of the area. Originally there was no parapet, this was added in c1815. In 1984 during improvements by the local authority, steps, cobbles and a handrail were added.
