Wycoller
Photograph shows details of Doorways at Wycoller Hall. Wycoller Hall is listed grade II*, with the earliest parts dating from 1596, with alterations during the following two centuries. The hall was the home of the Cunliffe family until the death of Henry Owen Cun;liffe in 1818. Traditionally the hall is seen as the inspiration for Ferndean Manor in Charlotte Bronte's "Jane Eyre". Wycoller also featured in the novels of Halliwell Sutcliffe. The doorways shown are from what would have been the kitchens, Bentley ("Portrait of Wycoller". 1975), suggests that they were part of the renovations carried out by Henry Owen Cunliffe in 1774. The purpose of the small 'keyhole' niche on the left is unknown. Suggestions have included a gun cupboard and a wig powder store.
