Vehicles pass under the old culvert as the new one is constructed around it. The construction of a new culvert was a must due to the narrowness of the road under the old one and the increases in traffic seen in the first few decades of the 20th century. The photograph was taken from the upper floor of the old Yorkshire Hotel.
