Cable Street, looking west, during the mid 1920s. All the buildings visible on the left-hand side of the road were demolished during the 1930s to make way for the bus station. The imposing Georgian houses to the right survive but the channeling of the north bound A6 traffic along Cable Street has transformed it to a very busy road.
