Nelson
Photograph by Barcroft and Crabtree of Burnley and Nelson was probably taken soon after its construction. The cinema was known locally as "the bug hut" or "the tin tabernacle" as it was built from corrugated iron. It was Nelson's first purpose built cinema and was opened by the mayor, alderman Albert Smith on 29th August 1910. Chronicles of Pendle Picture Palaces by Peter Sagar states that patrons sat on forms and stoves provided the heating. Teh cinema closed in 1940 and was demolished. Original photograph owned by Craland Whittaker and copied with permission by Colin Bean.
