General notes
It's likely that 'Alder Grange' was built by a member of the Whitehead family. Joseph Wood Whitehead is buried in the Hardman family vault in St Mary's churchyard in Rawtenstall along with his wife Ann who was a Hardman. The Whitehead family owned mills in Rawtenstall and Joseph Wood Whitehead was the first chairman of the St Anne's on the Sea Land and Building Company.
This photograph was taken in June 1956.
