General notes

The Cliviger Brewery was built in 1878. Its tall structure was designed to simplify the brewing process. Using water obtained directly from a nearby spring, the brewing would start on the top floor and work its way down to the bottom, before being transported to the local pubs and farms via drays. However, the already established breweries in Burnley had made sure that the local pubs had to obtain their ale from them, so there was no market for the beer being brewed in Cliviger. The inevitable ensued and the brewery went into liquidation in c1880. The building remained there until 1938 before it was finally demolished.
