A photograph of the end of the Cog Lane end of the Gannow Tunnel on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, Burnley. Three children can also be seen, one of whom is urinating in the canal!

A tunnel had to be constructed under the Gannow area of Burnley for the canal to pass through. There was no room for a tow path, so a tug was required to get boats from one end to the other.
