Work on this section of the M65 began in March 1978. In the foreground can be seen Quakers in Pendle bridge, which crosses Pendle Water. There has been a bridge on this site for over 200 years. (one can be seen on Yates map of Lancashire 1786). The motorway from Brierfield to Burnley opened to traffic in October 1981.
