General notes

Although called Finsley Gate boat yard, this part of the canal infrastructure, built c1801, was a wharf. The main building on the wharf was a warehouse (upper right) that was used to house goods, much like the one at Manchester Road wharf. There was also a ginney track that connected it to Towneley colliery, so that coal could be loaded on to the barges that docked here.
