General notes

A view of the lower part of Stoneyholme. Closest to the camera one can make out the playing fields that still stand there today. On the opposite side of the river Calder are the residencies on Holme Road and the adjoining streets, many of which have since been demolished.

Up until c1870 the Stoneyholme area was farmland. Burnley Corporation then earmarked the area to aid the expansion of the town and over the next 40 years there were major developments of the infrastructure, industry and housing.
