General notes
The young mill workers gather outside during dinner time at Lowerhouse Mill, which was located on Mill Street, now Lowerhouse Lane. The mill workers are holding 'Brew Cans' in their hands; these were used for the transportation of drinks to be consumed at work. Behind them is the gateway known as 'Penny Oile'. It was given the name because any worker arriving late would find it locked and would have to go through a separate entrance where a one penny fine would be levied.
