General notes
Some of the women are holding 'Flying-Shuttles'. Invented by John Kay in 1733. The shuttle contained a bobbin on to which the weft was wound. It was normally pushed from one side of the warp. The flying shuttle was thrown by a leaver that could be operated by one weaver. Many accidents happened when the shuttle hit the weaver in the temple when they were leaning over to inspect the cloth.
