Among the losses were the Astoria Ballroom (to the left of the image), Martin's Bank, Firth's Jewellers (No.10, clock outside), Walter Petty (Tailor's Outfitters, No 12) , and F.H. Howarth Chemist (no 22). The shop with the canopy is now Ladbroke's
