General notes

The villagers of Silverdale held ancient grazing rights on the foreshore, which were confirmed by the Silverdale Enclosure award of 1817.
The area covered by the salt marshes has varied considerably, depending on how the River Kent channel changes its course. At the present time the channel seems to be veering towards the Silverdale side of the estuary.
