Work began on this section of the motorway in March 1978. The complete bridge in the photograph is the 'Montford Viaduct' which carries the B6248 over Pendle Water. The motorway bridge is below this and the beginnings of the pedestrian walkway giving access to the earlier Quakers in Pendle bridge are in the foreground.
