Padiham Cricket Club are founder members of the Ribblesdale Cricket League. Padiham were founded in 1891. Runners up in 1901 and 1906, Padiham won their first league Championship in 1908. The club was unable to continue after the First World War but moves to re-establish a club in Padiham began in 1947. Land was bought at the Arbories, and in 1948 Padiham C.C. re-opened with the ground dedicated as a memorial to the victims of the Seond World War. (This text is from the Padiham CC website).

After 15 years, Padiham finished the 1908 Ribblesdale League season as champions for the first time. Their season had finished the previous Saturday, and a week later the trophy was brought to Padiham to be presented to them. A committee had arranged a big celebration, with the main road decorated with pennants, the gas works had erected some illuminated displays. A crowd of thousands watched a long torchlight procession from the cricket ground (then at the end of Sowerby/Wyre Street) wend its way around the town. It was led by a Temperance Band, mounted police, and morris dancers, then came floats with lots of comic scenes, the Colne Comic Band, veteran players, the trophy itself, and "the usual grotesque figures...the suffragettes came in for the inevitable gibes". "Padiham has quite a reputation for organising striking processions" The trophy was presented at an interval in a dance the same evening in the Co-op Hall with speeches exhorting Padiham to support the team.
