Contemporary Guild Archive
Description
We started creating the Contemporary Guild Archive collection from 2011 as an attempt to use images from people in our communities to add to our Preston Guild collections. Many people from the Preston area have kindly allowed us to use their images which we are delighted to display on the Lancashire Lantern Image Archive. Many of these images reveal interesting stories about the subject or photographer and provide insights into the developing history of Preston Guild. If you have any images you would like to share with us please get in touch with us using the "Contact Us" link. Most of the images date from 1952 onwards but we have some earlier ones such as this one which was loaned by Mrs M Sumner of the Lea Women's Institute in Preston in April 2012. It's a picture of Mrs Sumner's Mother, Annie Tipping, who was dressed as a fairy to be part of a cotton mill float in the 1922 Preston Guild celebrations and was thrilled to be picked to take part. Mrs Sumner thinks that Annie was about 14 at the time and worked in one of the many Preston Mills.
