Portrait of Rupert Whittaker, manager of the De Luxe Cinema Nelson, situated on Railway Street. The cimema was the first purpose built one in Nelson and was opened by the mayor, Alderman Albert Smith on the 29th October, 1910. Rupert said that the company that owned the cinema, the North East Lancashire Cinematograph Company aimed to provide good entertainment and submit a programme that would meet with the approval of all sections of the public (Chronicles of Pendle Picture Palaces by Peter Sagar).
