Sir Edward Frankland KCB, FRS 1825-1899 Professor of Chemistry. Attended Lancaster Royal Grammar School 1837-1839, he discovered many new chemical compounds, made important contributions to chemical theory and improved the quality of domestic water supplies, he was President of the Chemical Society and the Institute of Chemistry.
