Photograph shows the weir on Pendle Water at Chamber Hill, near Quakers in Pendle Bridge. It has now been reduced in height, but it originally provided the head of water to supply the leat for Jewel Mill which lay half a mile downstream. The leat maintained water levels in the reservoir for the mill. Jewel Mill was demolished in 1978 in preparation for the construction of the M65 motorway. (For details of the mill see SHACKLETON, The Textile Mills of Pendle and their steam engines. 2006 pp 125-128)
