25.5.1824 d 22.1.1901( same day as Queen Victoria. ) Leading light of the Burnley Literay scene, radical, editor of the Burnley Gazette, "father" of the Burnley Literary and Philosophical society. On 13.8.1896 a portrait of him by leading portrait painter Sydney Hodges was unveiled at the Mechanics Institute paid for by subscription by his friends and admirers.
His funeral took place on 26.1. 1901. The Burnley Gazette 30.1.01 printed a poem in his memory by John Allen.
