The photograph dates from between 1890 and 1905. In 1890 William Church's Boot shop (sign can be seen on the right hand side of Railway Street), was on Leeds Road and by 1905 it was no longer on Railway Street. Beyond, on the left is the Nelson Hotel and on the right the building now occupied by Altham's Travel Agency.
