General notes
In 1897 John Bentley sold part of his land to Thomas Ward and Co. who began brick making until the 1950s, when the brickworks was sold back to the Bentley family. Bricks continued to be made here until the early 1960s.
Longton Brickcroft Nature Reserve is now on the site of the former Brickworks. The old claypits now form the basis of the nature reserve.
