General notes
This is Walnut Cottage, now No. 51 The Row. The house was originally built by Richard Knagg, curate here from 1805 to 1819, who is said to have quarried his own stone, although the house appears to have been extended since.
It is also said that he would set off an explosive charge as he left to take a service in the old chapel, so his parishioners would have no excise for not attending!. Richard Knagg married Eleanor Borrow in 1819 and later emigrated to America.
