General notes
Lathom Hall was a Royalist stronghold in the Civil War and was famously defended by Charlotte Stanley, Countess of Derby. It was surrendered after a second seige. It was reconstructed as a Palladian country house in 1725. The main block was demolished in 1925. Lathom Chapel and Almshouses remain. The stable block is now residential.
During the First World War a remount centre was located in Lathom Park. There is now a research and development centre for NSG Pilkington in the grounds.
