General notes
Towneley Chapel is just outside Dunsop Bridge, along the trough road. It is in the Catholic church of St Hubert, patron saint of foresters. The chapel was built in 1864, to a design by Edward Pugin whose work runs throughout the Palace of Westminster, and paid for Richard Easwood, estate agent to the Towneley family. The chapel consists of nave and chancel together. There are many memorials to the Towneley family here. Winnings from the racehorse Kettledrum, who won the 1861 Derby, owned by Charles Towneley and trained at Thorneyholme stables helped finance the building of the chapel. Two stained glass windows depict Kettledrum.
