A small card, announcing the death of the first M.P. for Burnley, Richard Shaw, a Liberal, his death caused a by-election which was won by another Liberal, Peter Rylands. He died from throat cancer, despite an operation by Dr. Phillips. Burnley businesses, pubs, shops etc., closed from 11 am to 1 pm whilst the funeral was taking place in Willesden.
