The School was officially opened by Dr. Hoyle a County Councillor from Brierfield, Chairman was the Rev. James Robinson, Vicar of Read, Chairman of the Padiham Education Authority. Dr. Hoyle in his speech, made a plea for more financial help from the Government to schools, rather than the burden being placed almost entirely on the local rates Costs had gone up, including doing medical inspections which had begun in 1909. He listed the many medical conditions and diseases the inspections had found amongst children, including TB, rickets and stammerers. Refreshments were provided and a photo of all those in attendance was taken as a momento of the occasion. The school buildings were demolished in recent years, the school is now located near-by across Burnley Road.
