Coal barge on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal
Foulridge
Coal barge 'Wye' on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal near County Brook Mill, Foulridge. Registered in Liverpool, the 'Wye' is carrying a cargo of coal. An advertising board on the barge is for Laycock's Solid Fuel. The barge is by no means fully loaded, so the crew may be selling fuel to canal-side properties.

User Comments: "This photo dates from 1973. A load of coal was carried from Bingley to Skipton as part of the celebrations for the 200th anniversary of that section of canal opening. George Cheetham is steering and John Cheetham standing on the side. The two brothers came from Burscough, and moved to Yorkshire after moving from carrying to maintenance in the 1960s. The event was organised by David Lowe, who also owned Wye." 28/01/2024.
