Porch, Colne Parish Church
Colne
Photograph shows the Porch of St Batholomews Parish Church, Colne. There has been a church on this site since the 12th century, although the majority of the present building dates from the 16th century. Restoration was carried out in the 19th century, with the work being suprervised by Paley & Austin of Lancaster. In the Lancashire: North volume of "The Buildings of England", (Clare Hartwell, 2009), the porch is described as 15th or 16th century with "a niche above the arch and an eccentric (C 18?) sundial, an elongated cube on a thin stalk, balanced on the gable".
