Plane Tree Inn, Back Lane, Burnley
Burnley
The Plane Tree was a beerhouse, which was formerly located on Back Lane. It was named after a plane tree that was a local landmark in the area. The building itself dates from at least the early 1800's, if not earlier. Massey's closed the Plane Tree on 17 Dec. 1939 and the next day opened a new pub the New Albion directly adjacent after which the Plane Tree was to be demolished. The Licensee's name over the door, Thomas Pollard dates the image between 1903 and 1910.
