Burnley Cricket Club moved to their present home, next to Turf Moor, in 1843. The first permanent grandstand was erected there in 1886. During the 1930's the ground had a number of improvements made to it, including the construction of concrete terracing. In 1970 the old pavilion was replaced by a new building, which cost £40,000.

This photograph shows the original pavilion. In the background one can make out the coal wagon making its way up from the Bee Hole colliery.
