The green area on the left beyond the former Clover and Marsden mills is Quarry Hill Nature Reserve. Opened by the Proctor family in the late 19th C the quarry was bought by Lancashire County Council in 1970 for landfill. In 1982 tipping ceased and the quarry was later landscaped.
