Tower Pavillion, Morecambe
Morecambe
The Tower Pavilion.
Positioned where 'Gala Bingo' is today; on Marine road in Morecambe.
First erected in 1878 as a steel tower, then in 1909 the pavilion was built.
The steel tower was dismantled in 1914 to make use of the steel for ammunition as world war one broke out. This photograph shows no tower suggesting is was taken after its dismantling.
In the early 1920s, the tower was used as a cinema, and was taken over in 1928 to include stage musicals.
The photograph shows transportation relevant to the era; the buses shown are those used at the time. The open top version suggests a time of the year where weather permits their usage; perhaps spring.
The gardens and rocked area opposite the building also suggest the 1920s, which I have concluded from further research of the area at that time.
The pavilion was closed in 1949 and later the same year; reopened as the 'Gaumont'
This also adds to the evidence of photograph having been taken in the 1920s era, as the name of the building remains as 'Tower Pavilion'
