General notes

Mereclough chapel was opened in 1824. A school was added in 1865 (left). A large portion of the building was damaged by coal mining in 1883, and the chapel had to be closed whilst it was rebuilt. Unfortunately, in the 20th century, further repairs were required but a lack of support meant that the building could not be maintained and the chapel was demolished in 1966.
