General notes

The first Salterford pit was opened in 1948, on Salterford Lane. The mine was abandoned in 1957 and work moved over to the second pit that had opened in 1953 on Foxstones Lane. It became economically unviable to work this pit in 1959. There are now no traces of mining in this part of Cliviger.

Obviously mining was dirty work. Here the miners can be seen inspecting their new shower facilities.
