Briercliffe
A view looking down into the Heald and Beam store at Queen Street Mill.

The heald is the part of the loom that is used to moved the warp threads up and down.

Beams are essentially large bobbins that have numerous threads wound on to them. There is an iron flange at each end, measuring five inches in diameter. The yarn is wound on to these beams from about 500 separate bobbins using a beam-warping machine. These machines and processes can still be found at Queen Street Mill today.
