The view on the postcard shows the stone-built residential villas on the North Promenade. These were built by William Porritt at the turn of the century for the new Victorian middle-classes. They subsequently became known as "The Porritt Houses". Most of these still remain as hotels or converted flats. Postcard addressed to: Miss M.Hughes, Dublin, Ireland. Message reads: Do not think of taking a sea voyage for some time, no matter how much you may like it. A crossing like I had yesterday would damage you entirely. L.H."
