This view down Queen Street has as its focal point- Britannia Mill, built in 1853 and demolished before the last war. On the site there is now the Day Nursery and the Library.
The Nuisance Committee, fore-runner of the Local Board had their first meeting in the Britannia Mill Offices in 1857, when they issued a 10d. Highway Rate "for the paving of Queen Street as far as the money allowed."
