General notes

Gas production in Burnley began in the 1820's. Before the discovery of natural gas, gas was produced from coal. The original works were on Parker Lane, but moved to this much larger facility in the 1920's.

This photograph shows the coal storage area and its rail link. In the distance, one can make out Barden colliery.
