John Thomas Grundy, A.H. Edmondson.
As all the men are wearing the insignia and medals of the Royal Life Saving Society, this otherwise unidentified photo may show the Burnley Swimming Club Life Guards Corp, which came into being in June 1935 at the instigation of Mr. John Thomas Grundy, Burnley Corporation Baths Superintendent from 1931 to 1939, and a very keen life saver. The Corps was said to contain several police officers, all of whom had passed advanced examinations in life saving. Mr. Grundy also formed a Life Saving Club to train youngsters to save lives, and received national recognition and awards for his efforts. The gentleman on the right may be Mr. Grundy, and the one on the far left, swimming instructor Mr. A.H. Edmondson. Photo probably dates from around 1936. they would normally be based at North Street Baths, Burnley. There was also a female section.
