Junction Hotel, Colne Road
Brierfield
Looking towards Brierfield centre.
The Junction Hotel was built by Thomas Horsfall in 1866.
It was so named as it stands on the junction of the Turnpike Road and Coal Pit Lane (later Glen Way) which lead to Brierfield's Low Pit.
At that time, the pit was still in full production.
By 1850, the railway had been run across this area via a tunnel which crosses under the hotel.
To the far right of the image a chimney of the large mills which were built between the railway and the canal.
Thomas's eldest son, Robert became an opera singer of some repute.
The tram service from Burnley, along Colne Road started in 1895.
