Jim Redford driver of early locomotives in Burnley area. Born in Salford 12.11.1819, died Burnley 25.11.87. Drove the first train in 1846 on the Blackburn to Preston line, 1849 the Todmorden to Burnley line, 1877 loop line through Padiham to Blackburn. He was also a keen photographer. In the summer of 1880 an accident at Blackburn station on engine Vesuvius which happened to be between two trains causing a collision resulted in compound fracture of his right leg, causing him to become disabled and to be pensioned off by Lancashire & Yorkshire Railways.
