A "very impressive C16th house" (Pevsner: Buildings of England, Lancashire North. 2009 p352). H shaped with a porch added perhaps in the 17th century. The home of the Spenser family from 1292 to 1690 when it was sold to Oliver Ormerod. The port Edmund Spenser is alledged to be related to this branch of the family and stayed at the house.
