Gisburne Park is a grade 1 listed Georgian house on the River Ribble to the North of Gisburn Village. Buildings on the Estate are grade 2 listed. The Manor of Gisburn was first acquired by the Lister family in 1614. The house then was called Lower Hall and lived in by the Listers from 1706. The present house, Gisburne Park, was built between 1727 and 1736 by Thomas Lister, M.P. for Clitheroe. It is on two storeys to an H shaped floor plan with a frontage of nine bays. His grandson, also Thomas Lister, was made the first Baron Ribblesdale in 1779. On the death of the fourth Baron in 1925 part of the Estate was sold to pay death duties. The remaining estate passed to his two sisters, his two sons having been killed in the Boer war and first world war. On his sister's deaths in 1944 the estate was bought by the Hindley family, one of the founders of The British Home Stores. In October 1985 Gisburne Park was extended to become a private hospital and rehabilitation centre, with Christopher Hindley as it's chairman. In 1995 the hospital and land was sold and became The BMI Gisburne Park Hospital. The 1,000 acre adjacent park has been owned since 2003 by Guy Hindley and his American actress wife Amber Mead, and is an equestrian centre and Ribblesdale Holiday Park.
