High Street, Garstang, looking south. Until the first bypass was built in 1926, the A6 ran through the centre of Garstang. The Eagle and Child was one of the town's two posting inns. On the left can be seen the Town Hall, the clock tower was added in 1847. Just in front of the Royal Oak, the second posting inn, stands the market cross, a scheduled ancient monument. The market charter was granted in 1314 by Edward II.
